Install OpenSSH client in Windows 10

This all about easily installing the OpenSSH client in Windows 10.

Microsoft was nice enough to start shipping the OpenSSH client in Windows 10.  It's easy to install if it's not already. Every Windows 10 machine/VM I have seen already had it installed.

1. Right click the Windows start button,
2. Click Settings
3. Click Apps
4. Click Manage Optional Features
5. First check to see if the OpenSSH Client is already installed by scrolling through the list. It should be alphabetical. If it's there, you don't need to do anything and can ignore the rest of this list.
6. Click Add a feature
7. Click OpenSSH Client
8. Click Install
   • It'll look like it's doing nothing, no popup or prompt, it just collapses it. But it's install it in the background.
9. Click the back arrow in the title bar next to Settings and wait for to finish installing.
10. Once it's done installing you may need to reboot. You can test it by opening a new PowerShell and typing ssh and press enter. If it works, you're good. Otherwise reboot.
